Oldham Athletic Supporter John Connelly Fundraises to Support The Community Of Oldham.

John Connelly, life long Oldham Athletic supporter, is going to run 200 miles across 30 days to raise money for the community of Oldham which will be split three ways;

  1. Christmas Presents for the less fortunate
  2. Oldham Foodbank
  3. Local Grassroots Football

The 200 mile distance is equivalent between Johns home in Thetford and Boundary Park. By running 7 miles per day over 30 days from Friday 28th October to Saturday 26th November, which is the home game against Dagenham and Redbridge when there will be a collection for Christmas presents on the day, John will achieve is 200 mile target.

Johns target is to raise £5000 over the next 30 days to support the three great causes! He needs all the support from our fans to achieve this goal!

You can donate to Johns fundraiser HERE

John will run each day in a different Latics shirt, including match worn shirts! John will also auction some shirts on his Facebook Page to raise money towards his fundraiser!

John will complete is challenge at Boundary Park on November 26th where all our supporters can cheer him on before the game against Dagenham and Redbridge.

Speaking about the fundraiser, John said;

I spoke to Martin about supporting OACT with fundraising in early October. We discussed the Christmas presents initiative for local children at the home game with Dagenham & Redbridge on 26th November and decided that we could support the wider community also by further fund raising jointly for the Oldham foodbank and local grassroots football.

I hadn't been on top form recently and so I had been exercising and managed to lose over thirty pounds in weight. The day after I met with Martin, I met with my doctor who informed me that my blood pressure and cholesterol were good but that my blood sugar reading was in the diabetic range which was a bit of a shock.

So bringing this all together Martin suggested that I could support all three fundraising strands and also pump out a message to others regarding sustainable health and wellbeing by running the equivalent distance from my home in East Anglia to Boundary Park (200 miles) as a fund raising effort, which I will now complete over thirty days, running seven miles each day from Friday 28th October to Saturday 26th November, the date of the Dagenham and Redbridge match.

This is the equivalent of running from Oldham to Manchester every day for thirty days. I am in good training and so even at 55 years of age this should be manageable. I would be happy if anybody would like to join me running remotely in this fundraising effort for such good local causes in Oldham.

I do appreciate there are less hills here which is a bit of an advantage but the timing of the initiative means that there is some time to get fit before the Christmas festivities and so please do join or if possible please make a donation / contribution via the fundraising website here!

We are aiming to raise £5,000.00 from our efforts. Thank you in advance for your kind donations and I will see everybody at Boundary Park on the 26th November, where I will complete my challenge.
