#PLPrimaryStars Football Tournament

On Friday 8th July, we hosted a Year 2 Girls Football Tournament at local indoor football venue KickSonic. The tournament was used to help celebrate the Women’s Euros Kicking off as the Lionesses opened the tournament two days prior on the 6th July at Old Trafford against Austria in a 1-0 victory!

We were joined by 7 schools on the day: Woodlands, Willowpark, Greenacres, Hodge Clough, Christ Church, Royton Hall and Friezland.

School Engagement Manager, Emily Ashworth said ‘It was great to see so many girls participate in our Premier League Primary Stars football tournament! With the Women’s Euros being hosted in England and kickstarting in the same week, we hope we can help inspire young females in Oldham to play football as well as the euros being a catalyst to grow women’s and girls’ football not just in Oldham but across the country’

The tournament was also used to support Oldham Foodbank with each school donating food items as their entry to the event. These food items will go on to support those less fortunate who need a helping hand to ensure they can eat a sufficient meal.

You can watch the highlights of the day below as well as hear what teachers from participating schools had to say about the event and working with Oldham Athletic Community Trust.

As part of our #PLPrimaryStars project, we have ran a number of tournaments at KickSonic throughout the 2021/22 school year across all age groups, with this tournament being our final of the school year! We would like to thank all of the schools for taking part in our competitions this year and look forward to more sport competitions in the 2022/23 school year!
